LOCAL COMMUNITY PROTEST 7PM TONIGHT
ASSEMBLY EXECUTIVE CHALLENGED OVER REPORTS THAT PSNI ESCORTED DRILL EQUIPMENT
A protest is to be held this evening in Belcoo Co Fermanagh by the local community against the installation of drilling equipment by fracking company Tamboran at a local quarry.
Belcoo resident Donal O’Cofaigh and one of the organisers of the protest claimed “There has been absolutely no consultation whatsoever with us despite major concern by local residents and farmers at the potential risk associated with drilling and fracking. The first we knew that drilling equipment was being installed at the Acheson & Glover quarry was at 5am this morning when local farmers witnessed the calvacade of security escorting the trucks.
“Incredibly it has also been reported that Tamboran were also escorted on site by the PSNI! If this is the case, the Minister for Justice David Ford needs to immediately explain why taxpayers money is being used to assist fracking companies put equipment in place.
“There is major opposition to fracking due to the serious health and environmental risks for the entire population of Fermanagh. Our water supply will be at risk of chemical contamination if fracking is allowed. We are appealing on all those opposed to fracking to raise the issue in their areas and organise solidarity action urgently. We will not sit back and allow a major fracking company who are only interested in profits to endanger our health and environment. The local community will do all it can to stop the drilling from happening.
